折紙是一種用紙張折出不同造型的藝術活動。

除了紙張以外，還可以使用各種其它的材料。

此次工坊，我們將向大家展示如何用金屬折紙，

并且通過一系列金工技巧將其變成一枚胸針。

Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. Today origami can be seen in many different forms and materials in popular culture around the world.

In this workshop, each student will learn how to fold and sculpt metal to make an origami rabbit pin.

The process of the workshop

從折紙開始 / To start with paper

退火并在銅片上進行折疊 / Annealing and folding

在金屬上折疊出兔子的造型 / To create the rabbit form

兔子擺件 / Rabbit object

焊上背針 / Soldering the pin

拋光完成一枚可愛的兔子胸針 / Polishing and finishing

我們將從一張紙開始折疊，

之后再將這一系列折疊的過程用于銅片上，

最后焊上銅絲，做成可佩戴的胸針。

在制作過程中，大家有機會接觸到退火，鉆孔，焊接，銼磨和拋光等一系列基礎的金工技能，

還可以觀察到金屬硬度變化的特征。

We will start with learning and practising with paper and then apply it to copper. In this process, students will be introduced to basic metal techniques. They will get the first-hand experience in folding, annealing and filing metal and will be able to observe the drilling and soldering of metal.

About the teacher

Gussie van der Merwe是一位南非當代首飾藝術家

Gussie van der Merwe是一位南非當代首飾藝術家，她的作品結合了藝術、手工與設計。她擁有南非斯泰倫博斯大學視覺藝術的碩士學位以及創意首飾設計與金工的學士學位。Gussie曾去往荷蘭阿姆斯特丹的Gerrit Rietveld學院進行了一個學期的學術交流活動。目前，Gussie在上海生活并且進行個人創作和首飾教學。

Gussie van der Merwe is a South African artist whose work roams the intersection of art, craft and design. She holds an MA in Visual Arts and a BA in Creative Jewellery Design and Metal Techniques from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Furthermore, she attended a semester exchange the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Currently, Gussie is living in Shanghai making and teaching jewellery.

Artist Statement:

My work is a manifestation of my experience of living in China for the last five years, my travels to other countries and my South African heritage. As a Caucasian Afrikaner born in South Africa, a by-product of European colonialism, my background is a hybrid of cultural experiences woven together. Through my work, I explore the cultural effects of an increasingly globalized world and in the process weaving together a new culture and identity - that of a global citizen.
